A few weeks shy of five years ago, Elliott Smith played an extraordinary set in Austin that’s become one of my favorite live recordings. I have about a dozen of his last shows; some are terrible, some are just glorious. Here’s Waltz #2 from that show.

I’ve decided this October to host a celebration of the music of Elliott Smith at the W&L, marking the five year anniversary of his death.  I texted the marvelous Bess Rogers about it and she’s in. Now I feel even more strongly about it. I have this idea that the place will be packed with people singing their damned faces off all night long.
